Ultrasonic Petrol Injector Cleaning.
Fuel system, and more particularly, liquid injector cleaners encompass a great number of products and systems that range from simple DIY, pour into the fuel tank additives, to complex, purpose built cleaning machines. The core of fuel additives is a solvent and we are led to believe that a solvent will remove years of built up grime inside a tiny space – it won’t!
Injectors will need to be cleaned because over time they become clogged with fuel residue, which resembles varnish. This accumulation eventually reduces the flow of fuel through the injector, disrupting its spray pattern and causing driveability problems such as flat spots and hesitations. The engine management computer reads the output from its sensors and (the short story) issues inappropriate commands that you will recognise as poor running and excess fuel consumption.
Ultrasonic cleaning uses cavitation bubbles induced by high frequency pressure (sound) waves to agitate a liquid. The agitation produces high forces on contaminants adhering to substrates like metals, plastics, glass, rubber, and ceramics. This action also penetrates blind holes, cracks, and recesses.
Most fuels contain detergents that are intended to help keep the fuel system and injectors clean, but there comes a time when it’s necessary to remove the injectors for cleaning in an ultrasound machine. It’s the sonic waves that break up the varnish and residues.
