Parliament tears down new car repair monopoly: CHOICE
New laws mean manufacturers of new cars will have to share repair information with third party repairers. Australians will be able to turn to their own trusted mechanic and will no longer be forced to get repairs from new car dealers under laws passed by the federal parliament today.

The new laws will force new car manufacturers to offer the same diagnostic, repair and servicing information they give to their own dealers, to third party repairers which they can buy at fair market price.

"Today the Australian Parliament has torn down the new car repair monopoly," says Alison Elliott, Consumer Rights Expert at CHOICE.

"When your car needs fixing, it should be your choice as to who repairs it. The complicated nature of modern car design means many manufacturers have locked out third party repairers from helping people because they have not had access to the information necessary to fix new cars. Whether you trust your local mechanic or the original car dealer more, the choice should be yours," says Elliott.

Capped price servicing: what you need to know

While you may get piece of mind knowing you won’t get slugged with a huge service bill after buying a new car, make sure you are aware of the devil in the details.

Suppose you are locked into a long term Capped Price Service contract? Imagine: The cost of labour hikes through the roof, parts and oils and other inputs climb out of sight? Does the dealer stick to the agreed price or does he renegotiate your contract or do the easy way and skimp on oils and materials? Read more on the link below.

Is your Subaru due for its LogBook Service?

Regular servicing is a vital part of maximising the life span of your Subaru , and ensuring you avoid costly breakdowns and repairs. Many motorists are not aware of regulations put in place by the Department of Fair Trading, that ensure that the main dealerships no longer have a monopoly on the car servicing industry.

As it is your Subaru, it is also your choice where you have it serviced. At Highway Auto we carry out the same type or LogBook Service, using manufacturer service schedules and approved spare parts in order to ensure that we are offering you the correct service for your Subaru ’s needs. Your log book is stamped and your warranty is safeguarded.

Subaru Auto Electrics & Engine Diagnostics

Having the correct equipment is an essential part of servicing today’s modern cars. Highway Auto (HAE) have the latest diagnostic equipment that can identify and allow us to fix any electrical issue your vehicle might have. A modern vehicle can produce many different fault codes which are picked up by sensors that continually report to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) and tell it how your vehicle is performing.

Does your Subaru have any of the following problems?

  • Difficult to start.

  • Sometimes stalls.

  • Excessive smoke from the exhaust.

  • Uses more fuel than it used to.

  • Hesitates or is sluggish when you accelerate.

  • Engine overheats.

  • Engine misfires.

  • Warning lights illuminated on your dashboard.

Front & Rear Brake Service for your Subaru

When it comes to safety, no part of your Subaru is more important than the brakes. Your brakes should be inspected at least once a year or every time your vehicle gets serviced. Regular inspections will determine the condition of the hydraulic system, your brake pads and rotors. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below, we advise that you call us today and make arrangements to book your Subaru in for a brake inspection.

  • The brake pedal can be depressed nearly to the floor.

  • You hear a squealing or other unusual noise when you apply the brakes.

  • The car pulls to one side when you apply the brakes.

  • You feel a grinding or bumpy sensation as you come to a stop.

Subaru Air-Conditioning Service & Repairs

Car air-conditioning systems need regular servicing due to the natural wear and tear of the hoses and components of the air-conditioning systems in modern vehicles.

Always ensure that your car’s air-conditioning system is in working order by running it on full cold at least once a week for a few minutes, even in the winter. It takes at least one hour to carry out a correct service and re-gas of car air conditioning systems. For all enquiries and bookings please call Highway Auto on (07) 4926 1303
